The Beatles

In the past 24 hours, I have come across several stories about the Beatles. (I'm not even gonna link you to the wikipedia page.)

The most generally interesting was a nice article in the Guardian (and syndicated elsewhere) chronicling a gig in Memphis in 1966 which was infamous for being surrounded by protests from Christians after the Fab Four declared themselves bigger than Jesus (or some such), and the bootleg of the gig itself where you can hear what may have been a cherry bomb going off during the set.

The next was a radio listing for a Radio 4 show today (which I haven't listened to yet, God bless you, iPlayer!) simply featuring a never-heard-before interview with the Fabs from 1964. Like I say, I haven't listened yet, but it ticks all the right boxes in my audio/music geek realm. Listen here on iPlayer if you're in the UK.

Next up was episode four of NZ music top 100 'moments' countdown, Rocked The Nation, which I'm sure I'll write about in more detail soon. One of the featured moments was the Beatles' tour to NZ in June 1964, and it featured some cute clips of the boys getting plied with oh-so-Kiwi gifts at he airport, amid deafening pubescent girls.

Following on nicely from that, the National Library of New Zealand utilises Flickr to promote its collection of photographs. This morning? A set of photos of the Beatles in NZ in June 1964. Neat! I love the photos they're posting. Here's an example:

See? Even when I'm talking about a band from Liverpool in the 1960s, I skew off and talk about New Zealand. It ain't healthy...

Anyway, that's enough Beatles for one night.

No! :(

I've read a few pages in the library when I visited NZ recently, but haven't had any luck finding a copy to buy.

Any ideas?!
